Who it fits

Key specs explained for Swann AdvancedX

Video Resolution: 4K

This system captures Ultra HD video at 8 megapixels. You get clear imagery that helps you identify faces, license plates, and clothing logos. This level of detail is useful when you need to review specific events or identify individuals in your footage. Higher resolution allows for better zooming in on recorded clips without losing clarity, which is important for security purposes.

Connectivity: PoE, Wired

The cameras connect to the NVR via Ethernet cables that also supply power. This eliminates the need for separate power outlets and Wi-Fi connections. You benefit from a stable, uninterrupted video feed that does not drop due to signal interference. This setup is ideal for outdoor installations where reliable connectivity is critical for consistent surveillance coverage.

Hard Drive Capacity: 1TB

The included one-terabyte hard drive stores your recorded video footage. This capacity determines how many days of 4K video you can keep before the system overwrites old files. A larger drive allows for longer retention periods, which is helpful if you need to review events that happened weeks ago. Consider this when planning your storage needs.

Night Vision Type: Color Night Vision

The cameras capture video in color during low-light conditions rather than switching to black and white. This feature helps you identify the color of clothing, vehicles, or other objects at night. It provides more context than monochrome night vision, making it easier to distinguish details in dim environments. This is beneficial for monitoring your property after dark.

Camera Count: 4

The package includes four outdoor cameras to cover different areas of your property. You can position them to monitor entrances, driveways, or yards. This count allows for broad coverage without requiring additional purchases. Ensure you have enough mounting locations to utilize all cameras effectively for comprehensive surveillance of your home exterior.

Physical Design and Build Quality

The listing describes the Swann AdvancedX system as a white outdoor setup. It includes four cameras and a network video recorder. The NVR measures 14.8 inches wide, 11.6 inches high, and 7.7 inches long. These dimensions suggest a compact unit that fits easily into a standard rack or shelf space. The white finish helps the hardware blend into residential eaves or garage walls without drawing attention.

According to the listing, the cameras are built for outdoor placement. This means the housing likely resists rain and dust, though specific IP ratings are not listed here. You get four cameras in the box, which matches the eight-channel capacity of the recorder. This allows you to expand the system later if needed. The wired PoE design removes the need for separate power cables at each camera location. This simplifies the layout and reduces clutter around your property.

The system includes a 1TB hard drive for storage. This provides a baseline for recording duration, depending on your camera count and settings. The physical build prioritizes reliability over aesthetics. You get a straightforward, functional design that focuses on consistent surveillance. The lack of wireless components means you must run Ethernet cables to each camera. This ensures stable connections but requires more planning during installation.

Setup And Everyday Use Guide

This system relies on Power over Ethernet, which simplifies installation by combining data and power into a single cable. You connect each of the four outdoor cameras directly to the eight-channel network video recorder. This wired approach ensures uninterrupted 24/7 monitoring without depending on Wi-Fi signals. The setup is straightforward for users who prefer stable connections over wireless convenience. Daily operation centers on the included 1TB hard drive, which stores your recorded footage. The system captures video in 4K resolution, allowing you to review clear images of faces, license plates, and other details. Smart video analytics run in the background to identify people, vehicles, and pets. You can set triggers for motion, sound, line crossings, or perimeter breaches. When these events occur, the system can activate lights, send mobile alerts, or start recording. A key feature is the pre-record function, which saves ten seconds of video before motion is detected. This ensures you capture the moments leading up to an incident. The color night vision provides visibility in low-light conditions, helping you see events clearly after dark. Since the cameras are designed for outdoor placement, they are built to withstand external elements. You do not need to manage battery charges or worry about signal interference. The wired connection keeps the feed consistent. You access the footage through the NVR or compatible mobile applications. The system prioritizes reliability and clarity, making it suitable for users who want a set-it-and-forget-it surveillance solution. The eight channels allow you to expand the system later by adding more cameras if needed.

Before You Buy This System

You need to verify your network infrastructure before installing this Swann AdvancedX system. Since it uses Power over Ethernet, you must ensure your router or switch supports PoE output. If your current equipment does not, you will need to purchase compatible switches or injectors to power the four cameras. The included 1TB hard drive provides storage, but you should check if this capacity meets your retention needs for 4K footage. Longer recording periods may require additional drives or cloud solutions, which are not included. Regular maintenance involves checking cable connections for weather damage, given the outdoor placement. This wired setup contrasts with wireless options by offering stability without Wi-Fi reliance. It suits users who prioritize consistent video quality and reliable power over flexible placement. Consider your cabling routes carefully, as the cameras are fixed to the NVR. Ensure your mounting locations allow for direct wired access to the recorder.

Check before you buy

• Verify your router or switch supports Power over Ethernet for camera power.
• Confirm 1TB storage meets your desired video retention period for 4K footage.
• Plan cable routes from each outdoor camera to the eight-channel NVR.
• Check if additional hard drives are needed for extended recording history.
